Singapore Fun Fact #17 – How Singapore’s Dhoby Ghaut was named

Dhoby is a Hindi word meaning “laundrymen”; Ghaut is also a Hindi word meaning “by the river side’. In the olden days in Singapore, Dhoby Ghaut used to be by the river side, and Indian men staying around the area used to do their laundry at the bank of the river.
