Ramadan in Singapore

Hi tourists,

Do you know what Ramadan is?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar where all Muslims around the world fast. They have to abstain from eating, drinking and sexual intimacy with their partners and during daytime. Muslims are supposed to learn the virtues of patience, spirituality and submissiveness to God. In Singapore, a majority of our Malay citizens are Muslims and they will be fasting during this month. This is also a time of intense spiritual reflection. So be nice, and do understand the hunger they will be going through.

While fasting, Muslims are also encouraged to read the Quran and perform special prayers called Tarawihwhich are held in mosques every night during this special month. This is also a season of giving where Muslims will also engage in charitable acts by giving to the poor and needy. Would you like to give to the Salvation Army Singapore? Click below to give.
